Trapped : Movie Review

Image
Now, this is a bit of a surprise to my frequent readers, but yes, I did watch a Hindi film and hence this review. If I'm honest, this one was a spur of the moment thing, so don't expect things to start heading that way, but I'll admit, a lil change of pace isn't so bad. Right, on with the review then. 'Trapped' has a rather niche appeal as a lot of the references would be wasted on audiences elsewhere. It's...almost, a one-man show, and in some ways reminiscent of the Hollywood film '127 hours'. But nowhere near as interesting in terms of plot and character development. As the trailer shows, the lead character, Shaurya (played by Rajkumar Rao) gets stuck in a high-rise apartment, in a desolate building in the middle of a crowded part of Mumbai city. How does he end up in this fix? That I can tell. He desperately needs a 1BHK apartment, with a budget that is laughable (something I can relate to now), and he needs it tomorrow. He needs it beca

The Beauty & the Beast : Movie Review

This movie has been in the chatter for quite some time. I mean, another live-action remake of a Disney classic? Given how Cinderella did (I didn't see it but I didn't hear many people who saw it speaking too fondly of it) when it came out in 2015, there's a lot riding on this one to deliver on the fans' expectations. And as someone who only read the abridged versions of these Princess stories and can't remember having watched any of the original animated films, I saw this film being aware of the plot (loosely) and with nothing to compare it to as such besides the sketches from my childhood books. And I adore this movie. While the plot held no major surprises, maybe none for those more familiar with the original story, the execution was a pleasant cinematic experience. The sequences of song and dance are of typical Disney standard. As in, they are under normal circumstances, brilliant. But within the realm of Disney, they were good but not particularly grea

The Colaba Diaries: Ep 7 - Long nights, driving fun and good people

Right, in the last Ep, we left off with the finding of the Guinness. And boy was it a long week after that too. So let's get right into it! This one was quite the week, what with the 87th Geneva International Motor Show, which means long-looong days at work for me, not that I'm complaining given what my work is *smug smile*.  Actually, the second of those was more like a work marathon. After being in office for about 13 hours, I left to join some of my colleagues at a night shoot. I had gone to get some more experience and to be of assistance if possible. What followed was about another 8 hours of being at work, which I don't mind, but I didn't actually do much actively, which makes it harder to stay awake. Still, I got back to my base early enough to catch three hours of sleep before heading off to work again that day. The shoot itself was interesting and offered many insights about certain aspects of the nature of work involved in a task such as this. I'm bei

That's My Spot

I'm a human who really likes to find a place that makes me feel comfortable and then not budge from it. Quite seriously, I do not like budging from it. But life doesn't necessarily work that way now does it? It pushes you. It'll poke you, it'll nudge you, it'll try and roll you out of your zone, and if it needs to, it'll kick you out of it, even pick you up and hurl you out of it should that be the case. That's kind of how I felt when I had to come to work in the city of Mumbai. I mean this city is so far out of my comfort zone...so far that I don't even have a metaphorical reference that could help explain it. But, having been here for a few months now, and accepting that in the circumstances, if all works out, I'd be staying in this city for a lot longer, certain changes in my attitude have come about. In the months that have passed, I have come to find a couple of...spots, where I feel relatively comfortable and at peace, a welcome break from t

The Colaba Diaries: Ep 6 - Work, Movies and Guinness

It's been a really busy set of weeks. Busy working, busy socialising, busy having fun, busy...being busy.  I can't even remember what I was doing the day after I put up the last post. I went for a movie on Friday night I think, Jackie, then the rest of the Saturday was spent writing stuff for my auto blog (which I really should catch up on again). Sunday too, nothing that I'd write about here as such. The March issue for the magazine I work for came out, work carried on as usual in the couple of days that followed, no incidents or Mumbai adventures as such. And then things happened. First off, updating on the living conditions, there are now three cunts living here which as you can imagine has simply made it even more stressful. Of course, at the time of writing this ep, one of the cunts is out of town and will be till the next weekend, so a bit of relief there. Then, I went out for a day of shooting, in a support role for a story for next month's issue. Uhm, thing

Logan : Movie Review

Image
This is it folks. This is the last one. The last time that Hugh Jackman will play the coolest, most badass violent-hero from X-Men - the Wolverine. Or as he is otherwise known, Logan 'Logan' is the third film in the Wolverine series but the character's 10th one in the X-Men series overall in the last 17 years. And this one is not for the kids. It's for the kids who grew up with the characters. This is a proper, slashin-killin-bloody Wolverine movie with plenty of curse words and even has Charles Xavier (Sir Patrick Stewart) telling the clawed superhero to fuck off. But it also has an emotional side to it, which the internet says would be familiar to fans of the comic series. Set in the year 2029, Logan is shown to be ageing and ill, in a mostly mutant-free world, and driving a Chrysler limo service for a living. His trademark mutton chops have grown into a scraggly (but still manly) beard, he's a drunk, and his adamantium enhancements are poisoning him, slow
