Jackie : Movie Review

Image
A movie about an incident in history that I apologetically know little or nothing of, the assassination of US President John F. Kennedy in 1963. More to the point, this movie, as its name suggests, is about the Mrs. Jacqueline 'Jackie' Kennedy, the wife of President Kennedy, and her perspective of the days right after the assassination. It's challenging to provide a deep enough perspective about the story that is told in this movie, about the woman who's husband was murdered in one of the most controversial assassinations in US history, with the man accused, Lee Harvey Oswald, being shot dead in prison before an investigation could be carried out. Who shot Kennedy? Why? Was it Oswald alone? Could it have been averted? All these questions are not answered, and with the scarcity of facts, the speculations continue. But this story is about the woman who was seated next to the President, Jackie, his wife, who held in her lap his head with a part of his skull blown...

The Colaba Diaries: Ep 5 - Less busy but always occupied

Image
This time it's been even longer since the last post - 25 days! I haven't been as busy as I was last time. Maybe while updating you guys I'll also figure out where the time went. So, last time we...'spoke', I was just getting free from the whole rush of the awards event of the office I work for, and since then things have been a lot calmer. Yes, there was one significant drastic event which did shake me up, but it was quite personal, and not a part of the Colaba life, so I'll leave that out. I've been reasonably busy at work, restricted to the office mostly, not that I'm complaining. But now that I've had a taste of being out on drives and shoots, it's a tough rush to come off of. Along with the work, I've also been relatively occupied with the whole living scenario, and in between, I had about 10 cunt-free days as that cunt roommate of mine was out of town for some reason. Man, those days were a welcome break, especially with the timing....

B is for Family: The Batman Lego Movie Review

Image
We need more Lego movies. Simple as that. Good thing that the folks at Warner Bros seem to know that too. That's why we now have the 'Lego Batman Movie', which in terms of pure action and kiddie fun wrapped up in witty-satire of what's going on in the world, is awesome!! The main satirical target this time? The caped crusader himself. Batman is voiced by Will Arnett, whose deep voice brings out the best version of the extremely narcissistic personality. Alongside him, we have the villains led by the evil mastermind and lovable iteration of a sensitive Joker voiced by Zach Galifanakis. Batman roots himself in being a loner, with no feelings and no vulnerability and no need for anyone else. He even refuses to accept the Joker as his worst enemy, which is kinda what triggers the whole chain of events that follows. A superhero snubbing the hate-relationship of a supervillain and the journey of self-discovery that follows, could sum up the plot but there is so much m...

The Founder : Movie Review

Image
A biopic about the man who started the journey of the brand McDonald's from a single hamburger joint in San Bernardino, California, USA in 1954. An overnight success that was 30 years in the making. That's probably how it looked like when Director John Lee Hancock and screenwriter Robert D. Siegel started on 'The Founder', but the finished product is so much more, and I'll say it right now that you should DEFINITELY watch it at least once. If not for entertainment, then as a story of a real-life business epic. We follow the journey of Ray Krock, brilliantly brought to life by Michael Keaton, starting from when he was going from drive-in to drive-in restaurant trying to sell five-milkshake mixers. He is shown to have done well enough to have a nice home to get to, but he is still struggling and rarely gets time to sit back and relax. Though that last bit has less to do with his income and more with his character, someone who just cannot sit still and let oth...

The Colaba Diaries: Ep 4 - A LOT can happen in just 3 weeks

Image
Ho. Lee. Crap. It has been an insanely hectic 21 days. A complete whirlwind of events and incidents, from some of the best to some of the most unpleasant. Let's get into it, shall we? Right, so, one of the first big events that happened since the last post, was the cover shoot for awards issue for the magazine I currently work at. And this shoot is like our annual big shoot, a real special occasion. So, yeah, we had a great location for the shoot and some amazing cars coming in which were part of the winners' list, and it was gonna be a full day affair. So, part of being a trainee in this team is that I and the other trainee had to wash all the cars that came in for the shoot, about 10 of them and the two bikes as well.  Among those ten cars, there was pretty much my dream garage: an Audi R8 V10 Plus, a Ford Mustang GT, a Nissan GT-R aka Godzilla and a VW Polo GTI hot hatch. The bikes included a supersport bike, the MV Agusta F3 800, which isn't exactly what I'd...

The Colaba Diaries: Ep 3-A new room, a BMW and wine from a coffee mug

Image
A lot of stuff happened over the last two and half weeks, since the last episode of the series, let's see if I can remember where we left off. Well, I kinda do. So, first, we had the full week of happy people, what with Christmas and the New Year. While I have ranted about how I feel about festive cheer, I'll admit, I liked the Christmas stuff in the office primarily because I got a bunch of gifts and giveaways in the office, especially a jar of Hershey's chocolate spread and a stocking. The week between that and New Year's was rather dull and uneventful, just shuffling between work and the room. On New Year's eve, I moved to the living accommodations that I shall be staying in for the coming 6 months. It's on the fourth floor, there's no elevator and I had to make a bunch of trips. Yep, that was that day gone. To treat myself, soberly, I overate on pizza, which I didn't regret as much as usual. The week that followed was basically about settlin...

No I will not wish you a Happy New Year so fuck off!

It's basically a really tightly wound switch. It's not a very big one so most things avoid tripping it, but it also makes it hard to keep an eye out for it. Which is why, anything at any moment could set it off. This one however, is a regular. I really really deeply dislike festive cheer and the whole happy mood that it seems to put most people in. It is hard to put into words exactly how annoying it is, but lets make an attempt. It's like this itchy sensation inside of your head, and no matter what, you can't seem to get at it, and you just want to smash your head open. Or consider the sensation when you feel really hungry and you have access to just about all the usual junk food and delicacies, but not one of those seems to be the thing you seem to be craving for, and then you eat something anyway but it wasn't up to the low standards that fast food has, and now you've spent that money, you're still hungry and even more annoyed. Now, the cumulative l...
