The Colaba Diaries: Ep 7 - Long nights, driving fun and good people

Image
Right, in the last Ep, we left off with the finding of the Guinness. And boy was it a long week after that too. So let's get right into it! This one was quite the week, what with the 87th Geneva International Motor Show, which means long-looong days at work for me, not that I'm complaining given what my work is *smug smile*.  Actually, the second of those was more like a work marathon. After being in office for about 13 hours, I left to join some of my colleagues at a night shoot. I had gone to get some more experience and to be of assistance if possible. What followed was about another 8 hours of being at work, which I don't mind, but I didn't actually do much actively, which makes it harder to stay awake. Still, I got back to my base early enough to catch three hours of sleep before heading off to work again that day. The shoot itself was interesting and offered many insights about certain aspects of the nature of work involved in a task such as this. I'm bei...

That's My Spot

Image
I'm a human who really likes to find a place that makes me feel comfortable and then not budge from it. Quite seriously, I do not like budging from it. But life doesn't necessarily work that way now does it? It pushes you. It'll poke you, it'll nudge you, it'll try and roll you out of your zone, and if it needs to, it'll kick you out of it, even pick you up and hurl you out of it should that be the case. That's kind of how I felt when I had to come to work in the city of Mumbai. I mean this city is so far out of my comfort zone...so far that I don't even have a metaphorical reference that could help explain it. But, having been here for a few months now, and accepting that in the circumstances, if all works out, I'd be staying in this city for a lot longer, certain changes in my attitude have come about. In the months that have passed, I have come to find a couple of...spots, where I feel relatively comfortable and at peace, a welcome break from t...

The Colaba Diaries: Ep 6 - Work, Movies and Guinness

Image
It's been a really busy set of weeks. Busy working, busy socialising, busy having fun, busy...being busy.  I can't even remember what I was doing the day after I put up the last post. I went for a movie on Friday night I think, Jackie, then the rest of the Saturday was spent writing stuff for my auto blog (which I really should catch up on again). Sunday too, nothing that I'd write about here as such. The March issue for the magazine I work for came out, work carried on as usual in the couple of days that followed, no incidents or Mumbai adventures as such. And then things happened. First off, updating on the living conditions, there are now three cunts living here which as you can imagine has simply made it even more stressful. Of course, at the time of writing this ep, one of the cunts is out of town and will be till the next weekend, so a bit of relief there. Then, I went out for a day of shooting, in a support role for a story for next month's issue. Uhm, thing...

Logan : Movie Review

Image
This is it folks. This is the last one. The last time that Hugh Jackman will play the coolest, most badass violent-hero from X-Men - the Wolverine. Or as he is otherwise known, Logan 'Logan' is the third film in the Wolverine series but the character's 10th one in the X-Men series overall in the last 17 years. And this one is not for the kids. It's for the kids who grew up with the characters. This is a proper, slashin-killin-bloody Wolverine movie with plenty of curse words and even has Charles Xavier (Sir Patrick Stewart) telling the clawed superhero to fuck off. But it also has an emotional side to it, which the internet says would be familiar to fans of the comic series. Set in the year 2029, Logan is shown to be ageing and ill, in a mostly mutant-free world, and driving a Chrysler limo service for a living. His trademark mutton chops have grown into a scraggly (but still manly) beard, he's a drunk, and his adamantium enhancements are poisoning him, slow...

Jackie : Movie Review

Image
A movie about an incident in history that I apologetically know little or nothing of, the assassination of US President John F. Kennedy in 1963. More to the point, this movie, as its name suggests, is about the Mrs. Jacqueline 'Jackie' Kennedy, the wife of President Kennedy, and her perspective of the days right after the assassination. It's challenging to provide a deep enough perspective about the story that is told in this movie, about the woman who's husband was murdered in one of the most controversial assassinations in US history, with the man accused, Lee Harvey Oswald, being shot dead in prison before an investigation could be carried out. Who shot Kennedy? Why? Was it Oswald alone? Could it have been averted? All these questions are not answered, and with the scarcity of facts, the speculations continue. But this story is about the woman who was seated next to the President, Jackie, his wife, who held in her lap his head with a part of his skull blown...

The Colaba Diaries: Ep 5 - Less busy but always occupied

Image
This time it's been even longer since the last post - 25 days! I haven't been as busy as I was last time. Maybe while updating you guys I'll also figure out where the time went. So, last time we...'spoke', I was just getting free from the whole rush of the awards event of the office I work for, and since then things have been a lot calmer. Yes, there was one significant drastic event which did shake me up, but it was quite personal, and not a part of the Colaba life, so I'll leave that out. I've been reasonably busy at work, restricted to the office mostly, not that I'm complaining. But now that I've had a taste of being out on drives and shoots, it's a tough rush to come off of. Along with the work, I've also been relatively occupied with the whole living scenario, and in between, I had about 10 cunt-free days as that cunt roommate of mine was out of town for some reason. Man, those days were a welcome break, especially with the timing....

B is for Family: The Batman Lego Movie Review

Image
We need more Lego movies. Simple as that. Good thing that the folks at Warner Bros seem to know that too. That's why we now have the 'Lego Batman Movie', which in terms of pure action and kiddie fun wrapped up in witty-satire of what's going on in the world, is awesome!! The main satirical target this time? The caped crusader himself. Batman is voiced by Will Arnett, whose deep voice brings out the best version of the extremely narcissistic personality. Alongside him, we have the villains led by the evil mastermind and lovable iteration of a sensitive Joker voiced by Zach Galifanakis. Batman roots himself in being a loner, with no feelings and no vulnerability and no need for anyone else. He even refuses to accept the Joker as his worst enemy, which is kinda what triggers the whole chain of events that follows. A superhero snubbing the hate-relationship of a supervillain and the journey of self-discovery that follows, could sum up the plot but there is so much m...
